Qualification Information

To achieve the full English Language and Literature A-Level you will be assessed across the 3 components. All components will be assessed by two paper-based examinations and coursework. A more detailed breakdown of the assessment details is provided below:

Paper 1: Voices in Speech and Writing – 9ELO/01

  • Type: Written examination
  • Duration: 2 hours 30 minutes
  • Weighing: 40% of A-Level
  • Total Marks: 50
  • Assessed: Component 1
  • Assessment format: One comparative essay question and one extract-based essay

Paper 2: Varieties in Language and Literature – 9ELO/02

  • Type: Written examination
  • Duration: 2 hours 30 minutes
  • Weighing: 40% of A-Level
  • Total Marks: 50
  • Assessed: Component 2
  • Assessment format: One essay question and one comparative essay question

Coursework: Investigating and Creating Texts – 9ELO/03

  • Type: Coursework
  • Weighing: 20% of A-Level
  • Total Marks: 60
  • Assessed: Component 3
  • Assessment format: Two pieces of original writing and one analytical commentary

AS Level: Under the new A-Level specification, the AS Level is now a separate qualification and does not count towards the full A-Level. If you wish to sit the AS exams this course does cover the content, however it is your responsibility to book and pay for these at your chosen exam centre.

Method of Study

The course comes to you as a paper-based pack delivered by courier.

You will be given guidance through the Study Guide on the nuts and bolts of studying and submitting assignments.

Postal assignments cannot be accepted without prior permission from the tutor.
